This monument commemorates Franz Wirer von Rettenbach. He is considered the founder of the first Austrian saline water health spa in Bad Ischl. I found this bust in the local spa park (Kurpark). I was pretty impressed by the extraordinary size of the sculpture. [German]
Beware of the dashing garçon! I saw this – probably unofficial – traffic sign in Hallstatt next to the famous Hallstatt Lake. It makes people aware of waitstaff crossing the street. A local restaurant and its open-air seating area occupy different sides of the lane.
The Austrian place of Hallstatt is known for its picture book-like view. But it is also full of history. Archaeologists found a Bronze Age staircase in the nearby salt mines. A public replica of this piece tells us about the finding.
The Lössl-Uhr (Lössl Clock) is a technical gem in Bad Aussee. The public clock designed by Friedrich von Lössl used to work with the power of changes in atmospheric pressure and temperature.
The maiden voyage of the paddle steamer “Gisela” was in 1872. Operated by the Traunsee Schifffahrt, it still runs for cruises, weddings and dinners on Traun Lake (Traunsee). In the photo above, you see the steamer in front of Gmunden.
The Kammerhof, dating back to 1450, originally housed an authority for administrating the salt monopoly. Today, the Kammerhof Museum of Gmunden uses the old walls. As a curiosity, you find a compilation of historical toilet bowls inside.
After a relaxing stay on the Traun Lake (Traunsee) in the region of Salzkammergut, it was time to head back to the far-away railway station of Gmunden. Surprisingly, a tram car from 1898 invited me to jump on.
On my walk from the railway station of Traunkirchen to the town centre, I came across this vintage place-name sign. The Austrian State of Upper Austria (Oberösterreich) is still labelled as crown land (Kronland).

Sundial seen at the walls of Museum Hallstatt located in Hallstatt, a world heritage site in Austria. The museum presents the 2nd largest collection of pieces related to the Iron Age Hallstatt culture in Austria.
Scalaria is a hotel as well as an event location located next to lake Wolfgangsee in Austria. Ready for hosting and entertaining Iarge companies with their staff or clients. For tourists it is open during several summer weeks and Advent season. I was invited by the resort to stay there for a night and to learn about the best moments the place has to offer.
This ‘old’ steam locomotive Z11 was actually built in 1992 as part of the class 999.2. It is operated by the Schafberg Railway (Schafbergbahn) which is leading from Sankt Wolfgang im Salzkammergut up to the Schafberg. This metre gauge cog railway is pretty steep, at a total lenght of 5.85 km it gains about 1,200 m height difference.
