The Domstufen-Festspiele take place on the 70 steps right between the Mariendom Cathedral and the St. Severi Church. That way, the stage forms an inclined plane. As a result, there are additional options for the stage setting.
I had the chance to enjoy this intriguing setting in 2015. The Domstufen-Festspiele performed the opera The Marksmann (Der Freischütz). At the pic above, a lady and her shadow – it was a puppet, of course – floated down to the earth. This illustrated a vision of the leading actor Max.
