Red Dot Design Museum in Essen

Red Dot Design Museum in Essen, Germany

The Red Dot Design Museum is located in the former boiler house of shaft 12 at the Zeche Zollverein. A good place for a design museum as the former industrial plant looks pretty ‘designed’ in its Bauhaus style. I just love the way how the red coloured steel trusses are also used as a decoration element.

Ruhr Museum in Essen

Inside the Ruhr Museum in Essen, Germany

The Ruhr Museum is located on the floors of the former coal preparation plant at the Zeche Zollverein. On the different floors it shows not only the history of the Zeche (coal mine) but also the history of the Ruhr area.

Zeche Zollverein in Essen

Winding tower at Zeche Zollverein, Germany

The Zeche Zollverein (Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex) is a larger former industrial site and is inscribed into the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. I was especially impressed by the use of Bauhaus style for some buildings.
