This notice made me smile. The German text of the notice: ‘Diese Fahrtreppe musste aus Sicherheitsgründen außer Betrieb genommen werden’. Literally translated it says: ‘This escalator has been disabled for reasons of safety’.

Palais Ferstl in Vienna
Palais Ferstl is a palace in the first district of Vienna. It was built in 1859 and was never the residence of a noble family. Today it houses exclusive shops and the famous Café Central.
Palais Fürstenberg in Vienna
The Palais Fürstenberg, located on the Grünangergasse, was finished by Antonio Beduzzi from Bologna in 1720. The sculptures of two classy dogs still guard the building, which is not open to the public nowadays.
Attersee House in Vienna
The Attersee House (Attersee-Haus), situated on Mariahilfer Straße 78 (7. District), accommodates a hotel and a big store. Its name originates from the artist Christian Ludwig Attersee, who designed the colourful glass mosaic façade.
O5 at St Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna
This code ‘O5’ is placed at the right side of the main entrance of St Stephen’s Cathedral. It was the code of an Austrian resistance group during World War II. It stands for Ö (Österreich) built by O and the 5th letter of the alphabet (= OE).
Vienna Opera Ball
I took this photo of the main entrance of the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera) some hours before the famous Wiener Opernball (Vienna Opera Ball) starts.
Mosaic at Kärntner Straße 16 in Vienna
In the years 1894-1896, Hotel Meissl & Schadn was erected at the Neuer Markt 2. Eduard Veith created the depicted mosaic at the rear of the hotel. The building burned down in 1945, but the mosaic is still visible at Kärntnerstrasse 16.
Monument to Johann Nestroy in Vienna
This monument to Johann Nepomuk Nestroy stands near Nestroyplatz in the 2nd district (Leopoldstadt). Johann Nestroy (1801-1862) was an Austrian singer, actor and playwright. He used comedy for parody and criticism in a period of strict censorship.
Jugendstil at Dannebergplatz
You find this door in the style of art nouveau (Jugendstil) on the Dannebergplatz in Vienna. Whereas the park (Arenbergpark) in the middle of the Dannebergplatz is characterized by two high-rise bunkers of World War II, the buildings around the place offer lovely architecture, as depicted above.
Wiener Eistraum in Vienna
Every year a large skating rink in front of the Viennese city hall is a big attraction for the people of Vienna. The ice rink extends not only in front of the neo-Gothic building but also at nearby Rathauspark.

In this picture, my shadow is standing on public art created by the Austrian artist Eva Schlegel. The artwork appears on the soil in front of the Office of the Federal President of Austria in Vienna.
Coptic Orthodox Church in Vienna
The church with the name Koptische Kirche der Heiligen Jungfrau von Zeitoun was inaugurated by Pope Shenouda III in 2004. Parts of the interior originate from old Egyptian monasteries. I am impressed by its architecture, which reminds me of the ancient basilicas.
