The Domitian statue at Millstatt Lake tells about the origins of the name Millstatt

While walking around Lake Millstatt in the Austrian state of Carinthia, this sculpture of a vigorous man caught my attention. It represented Prince Domitian of Carantania, who became famous for throwing 1,000 pagan statues into the lake.

The statue was created by Prof. Giorgio Igne from Sacile (Friaul) in 1994. It is a reminder that according to a legend, the name of the lake originates from the event mentioned above: Millstatt = mille statues.
