Church of Sveti Nikola in Nin, Croatia

While driving to Nin, you may see a slightly inclined tower on a hill. It belongs to Sveti Nikola (St Nicholas Church), an example of early-Romanesque architecture in Dalmatia. The fortress-like part is a watch tower added during unsafe centuries. [German]

Sveti Nikola and the Croatian Kings

Legend tells, that not less than nine Croatian Kings were crowned in Nin. As part of this procedure they used to ride on top of this very hill and present himselves to the people. If you visit this place you could imagine how impressive this gesture must have been. It is still a good place for watching splendid sun sets.
