On my night stroll through the Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord, an industrial heritage park in the Ruhr area, I came across this torpedo car. These cars are used for hauling molten pig iron from the blast furnace to the next processing unit.

The Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord is actually the area of a former ironworks. It is open to the public and people are allowed to walk on the grounds of the ironworks all day long. Even at night!

The restaurant Hauptschalthaus is located in the former control centre of an ironworks in Duisburg. Its main attraction is the dining area in front of some huge insulators. Through the big windows, one also has a good view of the ironworks situated at the Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord.

Several German railway stations offer model railway layouts. After putting in a 1-Euro-coin, children (and their parents) can control the miniature trains. The dioramas are pretty large and full of details. I took this photo at the central station of Frankfurt am Main.

Today the topic of #FriFotos is labeled #Style. That reminds me of a strange encounter in Vienna some years ago. It started with two ladies who walked in front of me. At that time I thought: Pretty stylish but a bit dated. But this is only the beginning of the story…

The Kaiser-Josef-Markt on Kaiser-Josef-Platz is the largest farmers’ market in Graz. As early as sunrise, local producers fill the square with freshly harvested apples, Styrian scarlet runner beans (Käferbohnen), pumpkin seed oil, breads, sausages, cakes, flowers, and seedlings.

The Renzhof is a block of council flats situated in the second district of Vienna named Leopoldstadt. It stands on the site where Circus Renz used to perform in the years 1854-1897. You find the mural on one of its walls. The pictures remind me of the history of that place.

The traditional restaurant “Der Kuckuck” uses a cuckoo as its inn sign. I took this photo on a winter day, so some snow covered the cuckoo. You find the restaurant in a building with a 17th-century façade in the 1st district of Vienna.
This notice made me smile. The German text of the notice: ‘Diese Fahrtreppe musste aus Sicherheitsgründen außer Betrieb genommen werden’. Literally translated it says: ‘This escalator has been disabled for reasons of safety’.

Palais Ferstl is a palace in the first district of Vienna. It was built in 1859 and was never the residence of a noble family. Today it houses exclusive shops and the famous Café Central.

The Palais Fürstenberg, located on the Grünangergasse, was finished by Antonio Beduzzi from Bologna in 1720. The sculptures of two classy dogs still guard the building, which is not open to the public nowadays.
