Querfurt Castle was first mentioned in the 9th century. It is one of the largest medieval castles in Germany. In the last decades, Querfurt Castle became famous as a set for medieval movies. E.g. movies like ‘The Physician’ or ‘Pope Joan’.
While following a guided tour through the underground and the rooms of the castle I came across this poster which reminds of the fact that right here was a location of the movie ‘The Physician’ (Der Medicus).
An interesting detail one can see at this poster: The towers of the castle have been redoubled. Feel free to compare this poster with the first picture in this article. The shooting for the fairy tale movie ‘Das Licht der Liebe‘ started in the era of the GDR (DDR) but was finished in the FRG (BRD) after the German reunification.
