Have you ever thought about to sleep in an oil mill? In Neumarkt an der Raab a former oil mill for pumpkin seed oil serves as accommodation for participants of art lessons taking place in the region.

This building named after the family Dax which used to live here is made of mud and roofed with thatch. After founding a kind of artist in residence program in Neumarkt an der Raab (Künstlerdorf) it started to be the first studio for the artists.

The emblem of Bad Aussee shows two vats for transporting salt (German: ‘Kufen’) and a char (German: ‘Saibling’). The vats refer to the salt production in Bad Aussee. The char is a tasty food fish that is also featured by the Austrian food region ‘Ausseerland Seesaibling’.

In Bad Aussee, I discovered several traditional shop signs. The first one is a sign of a shoemaker. On top of it, you read the german name of this profession: Schuster.

Höch Castle (Schloss Höch), first mentioned in the 11th century, offers a nice view over the Flachau area. Inside, visitors find a big salon with a splendid decoration made of wood. Today, it serves as a venue for cultural events.

While walking along the venues of the festival Natura.Kreativ in Altenmarkt I came across a class in creative sculpture ran by artist Walter Puchmayr. Participants were told how to create artworks by combining driftwood, stones and metal in a creative way.

Sundial admirers find this piece on the facade of the Dechantskirche in Altenmarkt. The figure represents a Madonna for which the church is famous. You can see a copy of this statue at one of the side altars in the church.

My first visit to the Natura.Kreativ led me to the Reitlehenalm, an alpine pasture near Altenmarkt im Pongau. Right in the middle of the hills, a class in voice training took place. The teacher was Annelie Leuthäuser, an experienced theatre and concert singer.

At the beginning of the festival La Strada, I watched the French group Décor Sonore playing in the public streets using handrails, barriers, traffic signs and even balcony rails as instruments. By the way, the German word for beginning is ‘Anfang’.

This sundial created by Wolfgang Buchner is situated at the Styrian state archive in Graz. The state archive is located at the Karmeliterplatz, a plaza in the centre of the city.

Burgruine Dürnstein (Durnstein Castle) was first mentioned as castrum Dierenstein in 1144. The castle stands right at the border between Styria and Carinthia. I took this photo while riding the train between Friesach and Unzmarkt. You see the catenary of the railroad on the left side of the picture.

The Maßenburg is a castle ruin on a hill high over Leoben. It probably dates back to 13th century. From a viewing tower, built on the ruins of a former watch tower, visitors have a great view of Leoben.
