Querfurt Castle in Saxony-Anhalt is a known location for historical movies. Thus, a costume designer has established a studio at the castle. At the Burgatelier Querfurt, Ms Anja Becker-Geipel produces not only the garb for the castle guides but also historical costumes for the movies.
Querfurt Castle was first mentioned in the 9th century. It is one of the largest medieval castles in Germany. In the last decades, Querfurt Castle became famous as a set for medieval movies. E.g. movies like ‘The Physician’ or ‘Pope Joan’.
The Nebra sky disk is regarded as the oldest concrete depiction of the cosmos worldwide. Even though the original Nebra sky disk is displayed at the State Museum of Prehistory (Landesmuseum für Vorgeschichte), the Arche Nebra is worth a visit. It is located within sight of the sky disk’s place of discovery.
Inside the Naumburg Cathedral (13th century) in Naumburg (Saale) there are fascinating as well as fun details to see at some handrails. The handrails are decorated with persons, animals and mythical creatures. Some of them made me think the way to heaven is probably arduous.
This manhole cover in Naumburg (Saale) displays the city arms. Interesting detail: Since 1993 the sword lays over the key. This manhole cover shows the older coat of arms with the key positioned over the sword.
The pharmacy museum (Apothekenmuseum) is located in the rooms of the Lion Pharmacy (Löwenapotheke). Some of the exhibits are dating back to 1820. The collection also shows a lot of equipment which was used in pharmacies up to the time in the GDR (DDR).

The church of St. Wenceslaus (Stadtpfarrkirche St. Wenzel) saw its construction in the 15th century. Inside, it is famous for paintings by Lucas Cranach the Elder and a Baroque organ named Hildebrandt-Orgel.
This relief displaying a laurel tree and two men is fixed on a 16th-century building with the address Herrenstraße 2 in Naumburg (Saale). The edifice accommodates a pharmacy named Lorbeerbaum Apotheke (Laurel Tree Pharmacy).
This shop sign at the Bürstenmacherei Steinbrück in Naumburg (Saale) shows in a fine way the main products of a German Bürstenbinder (brush-maker). Inside the shop, you can not only buy brushes manufactured in a traditional way but also learn details about this tradition.
This window in Naumburg (Saale) shows works created by an artist. I was impressed by this compilation of snail shells which made me think I’m looking at a showcase in a museum of natural history.
