Before reaching Riegersburg Fortress, I had a short break at Kornberg Castle (Schloss Kornberg) nearby. This castle is a member of the Castle Road (Schlösserstraße), an association of several castles in Styria, Burgenland and Slovenia.

In August 2007 I visited the Styrian armoury (Landeszeughaus) of Graz which is famous for its large collection of weaponry and armour intended for a defensive army against Ottoman and Hungarian troops.

Sitting on a train on the Rudolfsbahn (Rudolf Railway), passengers have this view of a pilgrimage church on top of the Frauenberg. The german title of the church is Pfarr- und Wallfahrtskirche Maria Opferung am Kulm.
Railway station Bad Mitterndorf in Styria
A photo taken from a waiting train. The railway station of Bad Mitterndorf is part of the Salzkammergut Railway (Salzkammergutbahn) where you can still see typical Austrian railway stations of the 19th century.

The charm of travelling single track railways in Austria: While waiting for the opposite train you have the chance to watch cattle grazing in a lovely landscape. This photo I took on such a siding place between Stainach and Schladming in the Austrian state of Styria.
Steam locomotive BR 52.1227 in Graz
While waiting in the red train at the right side of the photo a huge steam locomotive stopped next to me. It was built in 1944 and one of the so-called war locomotives of the DRB Class 52. Well, I left my train on the spot taking this photo.
Roman museum in Wagna
The Roman museum of Wagna is placed right above the remains of the former Roman settlement Flavia Solva. So you can look at the ancient walls below your feet and some Roman pieces one have found there at the same time.

Rabenstein Castle in Frohnleiten
It’s a landmark when I take the train through the Mur Valley. When I see it, it’s not far from Graz: Rabenstein Castle. Its old stone walls make it look like an inhospitable knight’s castle. Inside, it surprises with beautiful halls and a collection of Japanese artworks.
Summer pasture of the Austrian Lipizzan horses
After a visit at the stud Piber I had the chance to drive up to the summer pasture of those Lipizzan horses which perform at the Spanisch Riding School in Vienna in their later life. This pasture is located on top of a Styrian alp.
