Speaking in terms of space the New Cathedral of Linz (Neuer Dom) is the largest church of Austria. It is even larger than St Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna. This photo was taken from the top of a wooden tower named Keine Sorgen Turm, which has been erected for the event Höhenrausch.

One of my favourite diversions: Taking photos of decorations which don’t fit the geography of the region. So I discovered this elephant on a facade in the main square of Linz. The house is also known for a theatre (Kellertheater), which generally performs comedies.

During a stopover in Linz, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart wrote the Symphony No. 36 (Linz Symphony) in this building located in the historic centre of the city. The Mozarthaus isn’t open for public but the inner court is worth a visit though.

While having lunch at the restaurant Schlossbrasserie on top of the castle hill, I caught sight of this remarkable tower. The 30-metre high tower made of wood is named No Sorrow Tower (Keine-Sorgen-Turm) and is part of the event Höhenrausch. Later, I had a good view of the New Cathedral from there.

Have you ever been misguided by your navigation system? People living in Weissenbach an der Triesting are obviously so kind as to give us a hint this is the wrong route. Weissenbach is a small place in the Austrian state of Lower Austria (Niederösterreich).

A particular program point of the Vienna Classic Days 2014 was a parade of all participating cars along the Ringstraße. Unfortunately a heavy rain took place just at that very moment. Well, perhaps the water spray around all those classic cars made this event even more exciting. [German]

The nail man (Wehrmann in Eisen) was erected in 1915, to raise funds for widows and orphans of fallen soldiers. Each donor was allowed to drive a nail into the wooden figure. Today the figure is located under the arcades of the Felderhaus next to the Vienna City Hall. [German]

On certain days one can watch the Hoch- und Deutschmeister band in Vienna playing in their traditional uniforms of before 1918. This military band has its origins in the k.u.k. Lower Austrian Infantry Regiment Hoch- und Deutschmeister No. 4. [German]

View of Lambach Abbey taken on a train journey from Salzburg to Linz. The abbey is a Benedictine monastery. The Baroque theater inside the building is considered as the oldest still in use theater in Austria. [German]

Have you ever listened to the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart inside a castle? At Tabor Manor (Schloss Tabor) in Neuhaus am Klausenbach I enjoyed his opera buffa ‘The Marriage of Figaro‘. It was fascinating to listen to the genius music of Mozart and to watch the full moon moving above the stage. [German]
