Villa Excelsior in Bad Gastein, Austria

Villa Excelsior has already hosted famous guests. For example, Sigmund Freud spent several summer holidays here. My tour guide told me it was here where the Austrian neurologist was thinking about the concept of Eros and Thanatos.

The style of the hotel is pretty nostalgic. Besides the stylish rooms, there are several public areas where people come together, read a book or have a cup of tea. I saw many guests just relaxing or writing postcards. This made me think the villa is a place where people love to stay inside.

The Villa Excelsior opened as a hotel in 1897. Later, the building served as a spa for priests. The hotel chapel originates from this period and is still open to guests. Its stained glass windows immerse the room in a magic light on sunny days.
