The Jahrhunderthalle is a venue for such famous events as the Ruhrtriennale. Interesting detail: The hall stands on top of an existing plant. After raising the soil to the level of the new building, the first plant became part of the basement.

Red Dot Design Museum in Essen
The Red Dot Design Museum is located in the former boiler house of shaft 12 at the Zeche Zollverein. A good place for a design museum as the former industrial plant looks pretty ‘designed’ in its Bauhaus style. I just love the way how the red coloured steel trusses are also used as a decoration element.

Thistles at a Lodenwalke in Ramsau
Interesting detail seen at a lodenwalke in Ramsau, Styria. A lodenwalke is a manufacture which produces clothes made of the wool of mountain sheep (‘Loden’) in a very traditional way. So I was impressed to see that they are still using real thistles for roughing the Loden.
