Kammerhof Museums in Gmunden, Austria

The Kammerhof, dating back to 1450, originally housed an authority for administrating the salt monopoly. Today, the Kammerhof Museum of Gmunden uses the old walls. As a curiosity, you find a compilation of historical toilet bowls inside.

Kammerhof Museum (K-Hof Museum)

The Museum inside the Kammerhof, also known as the K-Hof Museum, displays the history of the Traunsee region and the city of Gmunden. A leitmotif of the exhibitions is the ceramics. That starts with ceramic pots created in early historical periods and ends with the notable Gmundner Keramik.

Following the common theme, the museum also tells about the history of sanitary ceramics and shows a compilation of historical toilet bowls. Sacral and contemporary art form another item of the museum collections.

Besides that, the K-Hof Museum illustrates the history of regional salt production. The region name Salzkammergut and the building name Kammerhof originate from the local salt production.
