The Retz town hall originated from a Gothic chapel. After damages in the Hussite wars, there was not enough money for a complete restoration. As a result, the municipal community started to use half the chapel as a town hall. [German]

Dogenhof in Vienna
Around 1900 people of Vienna were very fancy about Venice. So there was an idea to build an Italian quarter along the Praterstraße. A small reminder of this gone idea is the Dogenhof (Praterstraße 70). Its architecture was influenced by a palazzo in Venice.
Tile art at Salzburg Central Station
One of the architectural highlights of the renewed Salzburg Central Station is the rediscovered tile art in the style of Art Nouveau. These works were created by artists like Otto Barth, Hans Prutscher, Hans Wilt and Hubert von Zwickle. [German]

There are many cities with preserved town walls. Modern cities surrounded by an equally well-preserved moat are rarer. A fine example of such a combination forms the city wall and moat of Friesach, a place in the Austrian state of Carinthia. [German]
Double Spiral Staircase in Graz
The double spiral staircase of Graz is an architectural element in the former town castle (Grazer Burg). It dates back to around 1500. That way, it is considered the second oldest spiral staircase of its kind.

Truck Praga R1/II (1914) in Vienna
I took this photo at an annual meeting of classic cars hosted by the Museum of Military History in Vienna. It shows a still-running automobile built by the Czech company Praga in 1914. A board told me the truck might have carried a floodlight of the Austro-Hungarian army during World War I.
Haus Stöhr in Sankt Pölten
Near St. Pölten Central Station, my eyes fell on a building with a remarkable facade. A snake swooped up towards a woman. I stood before the Haus Stöhr, also known as Olbrich house. [German]
Capitoline Wolf in Maria Saal
I only wanted to photograph the Roman stone with the “mail coach” in Maria Saal. But then I came across this intriguing relief stone in the entrance area of the Maria Saal Cathedral. It represented the Capitoline Wolf with Romulus and Remus.
Liechtenstein Castle (Austria)
Liechtenstein Castle (Burg Liechtenstein) is the ancestral seat of the ruling house of the European state Liechtenstein. The castle was destroyed during the Ottoman wars and rebuilt in the 19th century. [German]

The idea of running an automobile with wood gas fascinated me even as a child. So I was particularly pleased to see this truck with a wood gasifier in Vienna. The lorry was part of a meeting of historic military vehicles. [German]
