The founding of the hospital dates back to 1339. The bridge-like part shown in the photo was built between 1511 and 1525. The main infirmary, the “Sutte” or “Sude”, was originally located here. Today, a restaurant has been established in the rooms with a view over the Pegnitz River.

The Imperial Regalia in Nuremberg

During the Middle Ages, the Imperial Regalia (Reichskleinodien) either travelled with the emperor or were stored in a safe place in a castle, palace or abbey. From 1424, the church of the Nuremberg Heilig-Geist-Spital served as a repository for several centuries. During the Napoleonic Wars, the Imperial Insignia made their way to Vienna, where they can be seen today in the Imperial Treasury.
